We are currently seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager to join the Engineering HQ Team. The role will be predominantly based at Ilford Depot but will require occasional travel between London and Norwich to support other areas of the department.
The purpose of the role is to provide assurance to the Feet HQ function that the maintenance activities and services are performed in a safe and compliant manner, taking in to consideration legislative requirements and customer expectations, in order to provide a safe, clean and reliable passenger rail service.
You will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing an integrated risk management system to meet the requirements of the ISO certifications, company standards, legislation and customer requirements.You will provide support and advice with the development of risk assessments, safe systems of work, quality procedures, work instructions, operational procedures and improvement plans. You will carry out COSHH assessments on new and existing substances, develop audit plans, conduct internal process audits and facilitate external audits.
You will monitor and report on compliance with legislation, customer requirements, rail group standards and rail industry standards.You will also investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identification of root causes and development of corrective and preventative action plans. You will review contractors risk assessments and method statements. Provide support with the management of contractors. You will chair, facilitate and attend HSE performance meetings with key stakeholders.
Skills and experience required for the role:
NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.
Environmental Management Qualification e.g. NEBOSH, BSC or CIEH
3 years’ practical HSE management experience, preferably within an Engineering environment
Internal Auditor qualification and suitable experience with HSE audits (IRCA/IOSH approved)
Incident investigation qualification with suitable experience of investigating and root cause analysis In depth knowledge of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 management systems with experience of practical application in the workplace. Experience and knowledge with ISO 9001 desirable and understanding and experience of carrying out risk assessments and COSHH assessments
